Legislative advocacy regarding municipal issues.

Advocate for municipal interests by monitoring proposed legislation and administrative rules at the state and federal levels. Focus on supporting initiatives beneficial to the city while addressing those with potential negative impacts. Collaborate with the City Council, the City Manager, and other stakeholders to ensure the city's needs and priorities are represented effectively.

  • NHMA Policy position process begins in April of 2024. 
  • City Council has agenda items to discuss proposed changes, additions or deletions fo the policy positions. 
  • NHMA Policy positions will be available late summer for consideration by the Council. 
  • NHMA Policy Conference will be in the fall of 2024.
  • The City Manager's Office in conjunction with the Planning Office have helped inform the State Delegation about City policy positions on various topics. Housing, Planning, and Zoning reforms have been a point of focus.

Current Status

Several Congressionally Directed Spending grants have been applied for.

  • FY22 CPF for Mechanic St Ph 1 $290,250 now in active contract.
  • Completed FY23 HUD CPF WLeb Project Grant Agreement for $2,300,000 Feb. '24, which is almost fully approved.
  • Notified 5/6/24 of award for FY24 CDS request for $1,616,279 for childcare center.
  • Applied Spring 2024 for CDS CPF funding from Sen. Shaheen $1,909,996 for Mechanic St sidewalk Ph 3 (Slayton-Rivermill) and from Rep. Kuster, $1,633,067, for Ph 2 (Buckingham-Poverty) for construction est. 2027. Both projects were not approved. Ph 3 re-applied for in 2025, Ph 2 re-applied for in 2025
  • Community Development Block Grant applied for in 2025 for the Families Flourish chemical dependency rehabilitation program. The grant was awarded by CDFA in April of 2025.
